Last month I announced with elation that the Celtics had given us access to Saturday's dancer auditions in Waltham. Our loyal readers know that we've spent years petitioning the Celtics media department for access to events. And while this wasn't a game or even practice, we were pretty happy.
But in less than an hour, the Celtics media department mysteriously asked us to remove the post. We were told others in the organization were not happy with our past coverage of the dancers.
While our dancer voting competitions could be called sexist, it's something NBA.com does annually. And for the record, we've never been disrespectful to any of the dancers.
Following multiple emails and a phone call in which I promised to "tone down" the nature of our post, we were granted access… again. Three weeks later… I received another email saying our credentials were revoked.
From the start of this blog, John and I knew team access would be a challenge. But we've come a long way in 6 years. The site has grown exponentially and we've had partnerships with T-Mobile, WEEI, NESN and CSNNE.com and our content has regularly been featured on FoxSports.com.
What makes the Celtics disrespect for us even more frustrating is the fact we are granted access to other major events.
Here's our dilemma. In order to get access to Celtics event, we're going to have to "play the game." That means toning down our posts. I can assure you all… we will NOT water down content for credentials.
After the jump… pics from the dancer auditions. Enjoy!
