The Scottrade Center is where cell phone service goes to die. If you’ve ever tried to check Facebook, Twitter or anything else on your phone while at a Blues game, you know it’s pretty much impossible. At least it used to be. The Blues announced today that they have installed free Wi-Fi at Scottrade for fans.
The technical specs are pretty impressive, via the team’s website:
A total of 259 wireless access points have been installed, including 237 that are dedicated for fan usage. Each level of the arena will be equipped to support more than 80 gigabytes of data per second.
Access points have been setup to accommodate fans in all locations of the building. There are 115 access points that cover the floor, lower bowl and Bommarito club seats, including 29 access points installed with the scoreboard.
In other words, you should have no issue uploading a picture to Instagram.
The new Wi-Fi should also allow the Blues to offer more digital features, including contests and even the ability to order food from your seat.
In addition to improving the fan experience, the rollout of Wi-Fi at Scottrade Center opens the door for potential future expansion of mobile and digital offers to fans that are popular in other venues, including mobile ticketing, geo-driven and beacon-driven messaging, food and retail ordering from your seat (where available), directions to concessions, retail and restrooms from your current location and more.
The addition of Wi-Fi shouldn’t be big news considering the offerings at other NHL arenas, but for the Blues it’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully other improvements and renovations will come in the future.
