Poll: Did the Blues get a big enough return for Brian Elliott?

Picture 10

The Brian Elliott trade was both unexpected and controversial. Elliott led the Blues to multiple playoff series wins (something no Blues goalie has done in years), but the team decided to move him to the Calgary Flames in an effort to save some cap room and to avoid a future decision in which they’d lose either Elliott or Jake Allen to the expansion draft.

The Blues received the 35th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (they selected center Jordan Kyrou) and a conditional pick (a third-round pick in 2018) if Elliott signs an extension to remain with the Flames.

Simple question: Did the Blues get a big enough return on Elliott?

This one could really go either way. Elliott is one of the top netminders in the NHL, but with just one year left on his contract, an interested team probably wasn’t going to spend an arm and a leg. That being said, the Flames were in a position where they needed a goalie and sounded like they’d pay a decent price to get one.
