As first tweeted by Julian Benbow last night, the Boston Celtics will sign Marquis Daniels to a 1-year contract. This according to CSNNE's Sherrod Blakely. Nothing can be officially done/announced until tomorrow.
Marquis spent the last two seasons with the Celtics, averaging about 6 points and 2 boards per game. Injuries shortened both of Quis' seasons here in Boston, most notably last year's neck/spine issue. I was at the game last season when Marquis lay motionless on the Garden floor. It was the most intense moment I've ever witnessed in my many years of attending sporting events. Was he paralyzed? Did he hit his head? Those minutes that he lay on the parquet felt like hours. Thank God he was ok.
Daniels underwent successful surgery in March, and played in a few charity-games over the summer/fall. Most recently, Rondo's charity event at Harvard. Quis brings great defense, a knack for getting to the basket and most importantly, knowledge of Doc's plays and an established bond with his teammates. I'm expecting big things this year from the man who coined the phrase "BeleeDat". Believe that.
