Conference championship game requirements will be deregulated by 2016, according to a report by CBSSports.com last week.
This means the Big 12 can schedule a conference championship game without 12 members (currently has 10) and without using the division format. Based on the report, all conferences can choose how the championship game participants are chosen.
In the report, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said he believed the Atlantic Coast Conference might consider converting to a three-division format. ACC commissioner John Swofford since denied those claims, stating that title game deregulation was more about “principle” than proactive change to the conference format. In a nut shell, Swofford doesn’t want the NCAA telling him how to divide his conference, or how he chooses who plays in the ACC title game.
In 2016, should the American Athletic Conference change how it chooses teams for the conference championship game?
