Dan McLaughlin Becomes A Legend In New Jersey

Tuesday night Dan McLaughlin and Tim McCarver were in the booth for Fox Sports Midwest’s broadcast of the Cardinals/Mets game from Citi Field.

He might have been in Queens, but last night Danny Mac became a New Jersey legend.

Let me explain…

If you’re in the Midwest, you might not be following the dramatic final months of Chris Christie’s New Jersey Governorship.

This screengab from Politico should sum up the atmosphere around the state succinctly:

Over the Independence Day holiday there was a budget impasse in the state.

Mr. Christie decided to shut down all public beaches to make some sort of a point (as best we can tell) to legislators. He then proceeded to hang out at a closed beach with some family and friends.

Here’s what he had to say when he was busted:

“That’s just the way it goes,” Mr. Christie said. “Run for governor, and you can have a residence.”

Since Mr. Christie will not been seeking re-election, he needs to plan his next move.

Legendary sports talk station WFAN in NYC has been auditioning him as a possible replacement for Mike Francesa (the Mike of Mike & The Mad Dog) in the PM drive slot and he filled in the week after beach-gate went down.

It went about as well as you’d imagine it would:

Politics is fun!

By the time last night’s game rolled around, beach-gate had run it’s course. Packed away into the anals of history.

Or so we thought.

Turns out Danny Mac needed the last word. And he got the last word.

Devastating.

The internet noticed.

TMZ did their TMZ thing.

CNBC called it a “roasting“.

The A.V. Club’s headline? “There is nobody on this earth who likes Chris Christie”.

As of this post, Mr. McLaughlin hasn’t commented on his Twitter about his new found east coast fandom. One can only assume he’s being carried around NJ on the shoulders of adoring fans.
