It was Shaquille O’Neal who, in a 1999 Sports Illustrated article, said “when you watch MTV, you can tell all the musicians want to be athletes, and when you watch ESPN, you can tell all the athletes want to rap.”
Enter Tyler Beede.
This past June, the pitcher was selected 21st overall by the Toronto Blue Jays. Pretty cool, right?
Well, dude turned down $2.4 million from the Jays so he could head to Vanderbilt and play college ball and, hopefully, make a bigger name for himself in the future. And in the process, the 18-year-old was the lone first round pick not to ink a big league deal.
This move, as you would suspect, drew a lot of criticism.
So what did Beede do? He decided to explain himself…via a rap.
