It’s official…Daisuke Matsuzaka and Terry Francona are back together.
The Japanese right-hander has arrived in Goodyear, Arizona and is in camp for with the Cleveland Indians, ready to compete for a role in the starting rotation. The 32-year-old “Dice-K” is expected to compete for one of two open spots in the Tribe’s rotation behind Justin Masterson, Ubaldo Jimenez and Brett Myers.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, if Matsuzaka is added to the 40-man roster, he’ll make $1.5 million this season. He can earn an additional $2.5 million in performance bonuses.
In his six seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Matsuzaka went 50-37 with a 4.52 ERA.
