The Jose Canseco Podcast Has Dropped

Two-time World Series champion, American League MVP, New York Times best selling author…Jose Canseco has pretty much done it all.  Now, the social media superstar (of all baseball players, past or present, dude has the fourth most Twitter followers) is taking on the world of podcasting.

Canseco’s podcast, aptly named “Canseco Knows Best” hit iTunes late Thursday night and, naturally, the six-time All-Star made his opinion known on a variety of topics during the 48-minute podcast.

Among the topics:

  • Canseco’s thoughts on the Patriots’ Day bombing (the former Boston Red Sox outfielder was golfing when he heard the news)
  • Alex Rodriguez’s connection to the Biogensis steroids investigation
  • Dennis Rodman’s trip to North Korea
  • Homosexual athletes (“if a player tackles you and lays on you an extra seven or eight seconds…he’s gay”)
  • Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy weight gain (Canseco proves to not be that well versed on the day-to-day doings on Kimye…which isn’t necessarily a bad thing)

In the last bit of the podcast, Canseco answers questions from fans.  Among them, he is asked if he ever played the game while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Naturally, the former slugger did (I'm assuming most athletes probably have at least once)…and performed “quite well”.

Not a drinker, Canseco said he twice played while hung over and went 5-for-7 with five home runs and 15 RBI.  I’ll leave it to the fact checkers to figure out if his claim was legit or not.

All in all, the thing wasn’t terrible for a debut podcast.  I’ve heard much, much worse.  But, naturally, I do have some suggestions for Canseco and crew.

First, the audio mix could be better.  Canseco’s audio buries that of co-host(?) Colin Means.  The difference between the levels almost makes it unlistenable.  Two, the pair of names Canseco was searching for are Zack Greinke and Kim Jong Un…I'll let you figure out where and when he needs that reminder.  And lastly, someone needs to tell Canseco to ditch the “no ifs, ands or buts about it”.  Again, listen and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
