At first glance, he doesn't look a thing like Sam Malone, but Frank Thomas looks to be following in the footsteps of the fictitious baseball legend. Earlier this week, it was announced that the former MVP will be opening his own sports bar and grill.
According to reports, the Berwyn City Council approved a re-development ordinance to convert a local landmark (terms of the deal are listed at $200,000) to the former slugger's' Big Hurt Brew's flagship brewhouse. Not only will the location (a converted 88-year-old old timey bank) be serving up the namesake lager, the microbrewery will sell kegs for distribution at other retail locations.
"We're excited to get a brew house in Berwyn," city official Anthony Griffin said, "but having Frank Thomas involved put it over the top."
Thomas started selling his Big Hurt Beer back in 2011. The brand has since gone on to offer up a second choice, MVP, an All-American Lager.
