Often times, the sequel doesn't quite live up to the hype of the original, but when it comes to Mike Trout…I don't think anyone is complaining about his second full season in the Majors.
Tuesday night, Trout added another line to his already full resume when he hit for the cycle during a 12-0 romp against the Seattle Mariners. And in the process, became the first player to do it this season and just the seventh member of the Los Angeles Angels to accomplish the feat.
Trout struck out in the first…but that was clearly the only hiccup in his game. The 21-year-old (oh, did anyone mention he's the youngest player to hit for the cycle in the American League?) then singled in the third, tripled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth and, you guessed it, hit his ninth home run of the season in the eighth.
All in all, the "Millville Meteor" went 4-for-5 with five RBI, raising his batting average to .293.
In case you were wondering, the last Angel to hit for the cycle…Chone Figgins in 2006. And when Trout does it again (and let's face it…he will), he'll match Jim Fregosi as the only member of the Halos to do it twice.
Your move, Bryce Harper.
