Curious about what former big leaguer Magglio Ordonez has been up to since his retirement following the 2011 season?
Well…wonder no more.
Turns out, the six-time All-Star is planning on representing the socialist party of the late President Hugo Chavez and run for mayor of Puerta La Cruz, a Venezuelan oil town.
“We invite our major leaguer, Magglio Ordonez, to hit a grand slam in Puerto La Cruz,” Chavez’s successor, President Nicolas Maduro, announced Monday.
The 39-year-old former outfielder, hit 294 home runs and batted .309 during his 15 seasons in the Major Leagues. Ordonez moved to Puerto La Cruz upon retirement. The city of about 500,000 is 186 miles east of Caracas.
