The San Antonio Spurs today announced the 19 players making up their 2017 training camp roster.
Media day is today, which officially signals the start of camp tomorrow. New players, including Matt Costello and Darrun Hilliard, who are signed to two-way contracts, make up the roster along with draft selection Derrick White and rookies London Perrantes and Brandon Paul.
One new name that was added to the roster is that of 6-10 center Amidah Brimah.
Brimah (6-10/230) played four seasons at the University of Connecticut, averaging 7.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.64 blocks in 24.7 minutes over 33 games last year in his senior season. A native of Ghana, Brimah is UConn’s all-time leader in career field goal percentage (.637, 347-545) and ranks third in school history in career blocks (367) and blocks per game (2.76), helping the Huskies to the 2013-14 NCAA Championship.
Since Costello and Hilliard do not count against the max 15 roster players the Spurs can carry, they will have to waive at least two players from the current roster before the start of the season.
One notably absent player from the roster is second-round draft pick Jaron Blossomgame, who could be signed by Austin or internationally.
