With a towering blast in the fifth inning Tuesday night, Albert Pujols became just the 26th member of the 500 home run club.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u2Ot5oBCmc]But it was what he did in the first inning that helped make the night even more special.
You see, the Los Angeles Angels superstar hit a home run then as well and, you guessed it, when he hit his second, he became the first member of the exclusive club to hit numbers 499 and 500 in the same game.
And at 34 years and 96 days old, the three-time MVP became the third-youngest player to reach 500 home runs. Alex Rodriguez is the youngest (32 years, eight days) and Jimmie Foxx (32 years, 338 days) is the other.
Pujols, who spent his first eleven seasons in St. Louis, even found himself on the receiving end of accolades from his former team.
The St. Louis Cardinals congratulate Albert on reaching #500!
