He’s back, baby! Well…for one day, at least.
In a possible attempt to out publicity stunt fellow Atlantic League stalwarts Sugar Land Skeeters, the Bridgeport Bluefish announced Pete Rose, who is currently serving a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball and who last managed in the bigs in 1989, will be in the dugout when the team takes on the Lancaster Barnstormers June 16.
“The Atlantic League was created to be a league of second chances,” Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard said.
“I’m doing this because I love baseball,” Rose said during a conference call Saturday. “I love young players because they bring you one thing you need in sports…enthusiasm. These young men are here working their butts off. They don’t have egos…they are hungry. They run hard and they play hard, all the time.”
If you can’t get to Bridgeport to see Rose…don’t sweat it. The hit king will be back at his post in Las Vegas three days later.
