Familiar Face Nabs Rookie’s First Home Run

The Lottery Mafia

While Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy were busy playing amateur dentist Wednesday night…Boston Red Sox prospect Mookie Betts was doing work.

In the fifth inning, the 21-year-old went deep for his first career home run and, incidentally, his first career hit at Fenway Park.

But here’s where the story gets interesting.

Chris Large, the guy who caught the ball, actually faced the then 17-year-old Betts in 2010 during some summer league action back in Nashville.  And to top it off, the guy’s sister even predicted the homer.

“She said right before the at-bat, ‘He’s about to hit a home run,’” Large told reporters after the game.  “I said, ‘What if I caught it?’”

And that’s exactly what happened.  Following the game, Large, his sister Lindsey and Betts met.  Again.

For his trouble, Large received some signed Betts items.  Betts plans on giving his ball to his mom.
