Derek Jeter for Governor of New York?

Now that his storied career as captain of the New York Yankees is done…could politics be next for Derek Jeter?

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo easily won re-election in early November, but there were some in The Big Apple that thought the longtime shortstop of the Bronx Bombers was fit for the position. According to the recently released vote totals, at least a handful of New Yorkers wrote in Jeter as their pick to inherit the keys to the New York State Executive Mansion.

Some other notables receiving votes:

• Luke Skywalker
• Taylor Swift (who, at 24, is six years too young to run for Governor)
• Max “Jethro Bodine” Baer Jr.
• Arnold Swartzenhager (their spelling…not mine)
• WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler
• Philip “Uncle Phil” Banks

For the record, Jeter’s three votes was an upgrade from four years ago when he got shut out. That said, both New York Mets star David Wright (one vote) and “The Hippo at the Bronx Zoo” (two votes) received consideration.
