In case you were wondering what Derek Jeter has been up to…he’s gearing up to head back to Studio 8H.
Yup, the former New York Yankee captain has been listed as one of the numerous guests (including former hosts Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Justin Timberlake and plenty of others) to appear on the upcoming “Saturday Night Live” 40th anniversary special February 15 on NBC.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1VIbcmIgHQ]Sure, athletes appearing on the late night comedy show aren’t all that uncommon, but in the 40 seasons it’s been on the air, only 35 sports figures have hosted the show. And of those 35, only five (Bob Uecker, Billy Martin, George Steinbrenner, Deion Sanders and Derek Jeter) have had any sort of baseball pedigree.
So, yeah, Jeter appearing is kind of special.
Incidentally, Jeter is the only everyday player that has hosted the show (Sanders was more of a full-time cornerback when he had the duties) and that was back in December 2001 when he was part of this classic.
