Johnny Damon: Yankees Fans Need to Cheer Alex Rodriguez

It would appear as though Johnny Damon’s bid to become Donald’s Trump’s next apprentice is officially over.

Sure, sure, the former big leaguer was booted during a boardroom bloodbath with a couple episodes of “The Celebrity Apprentice” remaining, but, still…The Trumpster could’ve changed his mind, right?

Right?!?

Anyway, the NBC show concluded Monday night with a red carpet event at Trump Tower (where else?) and, naturally, the two-time World Champ was there alongside his very pregnant wife Michelle. And you would think Damon’s mind would be on the show’s finale, but, nope, just days away from pitchers and catchers reporting…he was thinking baseball.

“[Alex Rodriguez] was a great teammate of mine,” Damon told Subway Squawkers. “I just hope the fans can go out and cheer for him because they need him to do well if they’re going to make the playoffs. If he doesn’t have the support, it’s going to be a very long year for the Yankees.”

Damon’s comments are interesting given what he said in 2013 following Rodriguez’s then-211 game suspension.

“Anything with a connection to PEDs, Alex’s name is going to come up,” Damon said when asked about his former teammate. “It would be a shame if that’s the only reason we won against the Twins, Angels and Phillies (the Yankees three playoff opponents in 2009).”

It remains to be seen how baseball fans are going to respond to Rodriguez once he returns from his season-long absence, but if the response to his handwritten “apology” from Tuesday is any indication…dude’s got a huge hill to climb.
