Not since Henry Rowengartner, have Hollywood executives been so enamored by a Little League hurler.
According to Variety, the Disney Channel is planning on producing “Throw Like Mo”…a biopic of Mo’ne Davis, the 2014 Little League World Series’ standout superstar.
“Mo’ne is not only a topnotch athlete in three different sports,” Naketha Mattocks, VP of original movies for Disney Channels said, “but she is an exemplary student and someone who will remind our audiences that they can do anything with hard work, dedication and belief in themselves.”
“A year ago, I never would have thought that Disney Channel would make a movie about me,” Davis said. “I can’t wait to get started, and I hope it will encourage other viewers to believe that dreams really do come true.”
Seven month ago, Davis became the first girl to pitch a winning game in the Little League World Series. Since then, the thirteen-year-old’s life has been one crazy thing after another.
Up first, it was the non-stop television appearances, including a visit to “The Tonight Show” where she struck out host Jimmy Fallon. Then, it was the cover of Sports Illustrated, being featured as one of TIME’s “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014” and, naturally, being named Sports Illustrated Kids’ “Sports Kid of the Year”. And in February, she made the highlight shows by holding her own in an NBA All-Star Game weekend celebrity basketball game.
Recently, she took to the court again, as a member of the legendary Harlem Globetrotters.
Davis herself, along with ESPNw, will consult on the movie.
