Lately Facebook has been playing around with TimeHop like features on your news feed.
You’ll login to The Book and will be greeted with a post you made a year or two or three ago. It’s called ‘On This Day‘.
For the most part, it’s good fun. And the few times it’s happened to me (granted, I don’t post much to FB), I’ve thought to myself ‘damn, it’s been 3 years since that?’

When I jumped on the internet this AM to see what was going on in the world, I saw this:

A year?
That’s it?
Because – at least to me – it’s felt like way, way longer than a year since Oscar Taveras and his girlfriend Edilia Arvelo died.
I don’t know why that feels like so long ago.
+++++
Chances are you’re going to have at least a brief conversation about Taveras today. And chances are you’re going to be at a loss for words just like you were last year on this date.
I think new STLToday.com columnist Benjamin Hochman did a nice job on his piece talking about Taveras’ complicated legacy with the team and the city of St. Louis:

The one pull quote I’d highlight is from Rams player Robert Quinn:
“People say it all the time — ‘make plans, get a (sober) driver’ — but it’s easier said than done,” the All-Pro Quinn said. “But we’re all grown men playing this game, so when it comes to that, we should stop acting like children sometimes, be grown and get somebody to drive us — no matter if you don’t want to pay for (the service) or you’re worried about your car. Life’s too precious to think you can overcome it, because you’re this big guy or (think you’re) invincible.
While he’s not (necessarily) speaking on the ongoing dispute between the STL Taxicab Commission and Uber, I might gently encourage St. Louis city leaders to do everything they can to increase the amount of safe transportation options for residents and visitors.

RIP Oscar.
