Zack Hample to Return Ball to Alex Rodriguez

My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.

Much like when President Gerald Ford uttered the line more than forty years ago, I’m proud to say that we, as a nation on the verge of celebrating our country’s independence, can rest easy tonight…the ball marking Alex Rodriguez’s 3000th hit will be returned.

Friday morning, the Yankees and Zack Hample, the man who caught A-Rod’s historic hit on June 19, came to the decision that instead of the ball being the centerpiece of the famed ballhawk’s collection (more than 8000 balls and growing!), it needed to be back with the dude who hit it.

Oh, and the team will be donating $150,000 to make it all happen, therefore negating their “not a milestone” stance.

“I can barely talk now,” Hample told The Hall exclusively. “David Rhode, the executive director of Pitch In For Baseball, discussed the actual dollar amount with Yankees President Randy Levine. I didn’t have any say in that, although I could have rejected the deal if I wasn’t satisfied. My role in this was simply bringing the charity and Yankees together and allowing them to work something out. I’m so happy and excited that it turned out this way. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.”

It really is a win-win situation. However, some fans (the most probably residing in or around the 10451 zip code) aren’t so happy, even though Pitch In For Baseball, an organization Hample has worked with since 2009 are getting a sizeable chunk of change.

You can’t please them all, right?
