Lee Smith had rookie cards from Topps, Donruss and Fleer in 1982. Fleer’s had the most interesting picture, an action shot in the Cubs’ old pinstripe road uniforms, and an error on the back, somehow managing to flip the “ubs” in the Cubs log upside down.
His 1988 Topps Sticker back card has several interesting variations, detailed on my own blog:
In his later years, Smith became a bit of a hired gun, as contending teams vied for his services. No matter where he went, he was great at interacting with the fans.
He has had a few cards issued in his post-playing days, most recently a 2014 Topps mini card in the 1989 style.
One final question – is In Living Color still his favorite TV show?
