Saturday afternoon, Matt Harvey upset and confused baseball fans when it was revealed that he would be adhering to a strict, (supposed) doctor-imposed 180 innings limit heading into the New York Mets stretch run.
A day later, the pitcher hit the interwebs and recanted. Sorta.
“You’ve heard about the 180-185 innings cap,” Harvey communicated via The Players Tribune. “That seems to be the number that will allow me to pitch into the postseason. Regardless of those numbers, I hope everyone knows: I have always wanted to play. I have always wanted to pitch every single chance I get. Especially in the playoffs.”
Optimism in the face of adversity…you’ve gotta like that in your ace, right Mets fans?
Unfortunately, dude’s clarification didn’t come before Dwight Gooden was able to hit the Twitters and unloaded on Harvey.

With three weeks to go in the season, Harvey, who missed out all of 2014 with an arm injury, is sitting at 166 1/3 innings pitched, meaning…he’ll likely hit his threshold three starts from now. But when pressed Sunday, the pitcher wasn’t super concerned about addressing if (or when) he’d shut it down for the year.
“Right now, I’m focused on Tuesday,” Harvey told reporters.
