Okay, it’s time to get ALL of those nice juicy links from the last few weeks on here.
The Cal Ripken Cavalcade:
It’s been 20 years since Cal Ripken Jr. broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games record, and as arguably the most important baseball moment of the 1990s (especially as the home run races have been steroid-infused in retrospect), it’s not surprising that there have been a ton of good reminisces about it:
Jesse Spector takes a look at the streak through the eyes of Ripken’s teammates, especially his double-play partners.
Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun talked to a bunch of people about the streak – not just his teammate Brady Anderson, but also broadcasters, journalists, Orioles employees, and Orioles catcher Steve Clevenger, who was at the game as a fan.
Fellow Baltimore writer Peter Schmuck also has some thoughts on the streak.
It’s often forgot that there was another team playing in that game – the Angels. Jeff Fletcher talked briefly to Tim Salmon about what it was like that night.
Grant Brisbee admits he was an idiot for not caring about the streak
Ken Rosenthal linked to his column from the time
Ripken himself weighed in on Player’s Tribune
