There are wagers (like the one the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets made prior to the NLCS) and then …there are wagers.
Prior to Game One of the World Series, Michael Stern, music director with the Kansas City Symphony, issued a challenged to the New York Philharmonic.
“We propose a little challenge, a wager if you will,” Stern, a “born and bred” New Yorker said. “If (the Kansas City Royals) lose, we are going to send everyone in the Philharmonic an authentic Kansas City barbecue lunch.”
Stern added he would also lead the Symphony in “New York, New York” at a future performance while wearing a Mets jersey.
And what if the Royals win?
“The challenge for them is that (Philharmonic conductor Alan Gilbert) will don a Kansas City Royals jersey,” Stern added. “At his next concert in New York, they will play as an encore, ‘Everything is Up to Date in Kansas City’. And we expect lunch, for everyone in the orchestra, New York’s finest bagels, cream cheese and lox. And I’m not talking about the packaged, store-bought kind.”
It. Is. On.
Your move New York Philharmonic.
