After splitting 2015 between Triple-A and the Majors, Shaun Marcum has called it quits.
The pitcher, who went 3-2 in seven games for the Cleveland Indians last year, has opted to retire and head back to school instead of staying with the big league club.
Marcum will be joining the Northwestern Oklahoma State University staff immediately as the Rangers pitching coach.
“I played long enough and now I feel like it’s time for me to see if I can help these kids reach their goals of playing professionally and winning a National Championship,” Marcum said. “Getting to be on Coach Carel’s staff was something I couldn’t pass up. I’m really excited and looking forward to being a part of the NWOSU baseball program.”
Marcum spent time with four different teams during his nine-year big league career, compiling a career record of 61-48. Fun fact! From 2007-2012, he compiled the seventh highest win percentage (.628) of all Major League pitchers with more than 800 innings pitched.
