If Jerry West is “The Logo”…would that make legendary Los Angeles Dodgers play-by-man Vin Scully “The Address”?
It would appear so.
Since 1950, Scully has helped put the Dodgers on the map…so it seems fitting that the City of Angels would return the favor.
Friday, the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to change the name of Elysian Park Avenue in recognition of the 88-year-old broadcaster. To show their support, new skipper Dave Roberts, pitcher Clayton Kershaw and a host of other Dodgers (past and present) were among those on hand for the vote.
“I was raised in the streets of New York and to have a street named after me in Los Angeles is almost too much to comprehend,” Scully said via a statement. “A path to Dodger Stadium is a pathway to my heart. For 55 years, it has been an honor to walk that road to one of the greatest entertainment centers in the world, a place that has brought so much joy to all of us. I thank God for this great honor.”
So what does this mean exactly?
It means that by the time the new season starts, the street address of Dodger Stadium will no longer be 1000 Elysian Park Ave…it’ll be 1000 Vin Scully Avenue.
Scully begins his 67th (and final?) season in the Dodgers broadcast booth when the team takes on Arizona in its home opener April 12.
