The St. Louis Cardinals were originally scheduled to open the season against the Pittsburgh Pirates on MON APR 4th, but ESPN has expanded their Opening Day coverage and moved the date and time.
NEW opening date/time is SUN APR 3rd @ 12:00 CT (in Pittsburgh).
The Cardinals will once again be the very first game of the MLB year and play in a nationally televised broadcast (in 2015, they played the Cubs on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball).
New series schedule:
- GM1 (SUN APR 3)
- OFF DAY (MON APR 4)
- GM2 (TUE APR 5)
- GM3 (WED APR 6)
- OFF DAY (THU APR 7)
The orginal schedule then proceeds as normal with a trip to Atlanta to face the Braves from APR 8-10th before coming back to STL for the home opener on MON APR 11th.
Here is the ESPN lineup for ‘Opening Day’:
- STL @ PIT – SUN APR 3 @ 12:00p CT
- TOR @ TB – SUN APR 3 @ 3:00p CT
- NYM @ KC – SUN APR 3 @ 7:35p CT
MLB (and ESPN) are attempting to get traction for an opening Sunday in baseball as opposed to the traditional Monday opening days that are the norm.
Mark your calendars as needed.
