Rumor has it that Grant Fuhr has been relieved of his duties as goaltending coach for the Coyotes and reassigned to prospects. Sean Burke has apparently taken his place. Two thoughts on this… YAY for our goalies getting a real coach but booooo for our prospects getting Fuhr. I am quite torn. Fuhr has not proven that he can coach. We obviously need a new coach in Phoenix but will Fuhr be able to coach the prospects? This greatly concerns me.
In other news… 13 have been sent to San Antonio and 2 have been released from their professional tryouts. The two released from their tryouts are defenseman Ross Lupaschuk and forward Aaron Downey.
The 13 sent down include goalies Joel Gistedt and Josh Tordjman. There is no real surprise there. I didn’t think either of them would make the Coyotes. Joel had a great camp and was pushed a lot by Ulf and Burke. Tater… I just don’t get it love. Why are you struggling so? You had a great year in San Antonio. You helped pull them out of a 0-17 streak. You used to have some great games when you were called up to the big league. What’s going on hun? Do we need to get you a new coach? What is it you need to reach your full potential? A cheeseburger? We are here to help you Tater.
The forwards that were sent down include Stefan Meyer, Andrew Orpik, Matt Watkins, Mitch Fritz, Colin Long and Justin Bernhardt. I can honestly say only Mr. Fritz really stood out to me this camp. He was huge and he wasn’t a horrible skater for someone so large (I’m not saying he was a good skater, but I was surprised).
The dmen sent down were Jonas Anhelov, Chris Frank, Nick Ross, Sean Sullivan and Sean Zimmerman. Jonas darling, please stop getting hurt during the rookie games. You are just not helping yourself. You could have had a shot at that 7th dman position if you were healthy. Chris, I love your black eye you had at the start of camp. I loved that you still fought. I loved that I recognized your black eye when you walked into Margaritaville before the game on Friday. Nick, you are getting there. Give it a year or two and you will be with the big boys. I would love to see you get a little more physical though. I remember when we drafted you and I saw all your clips of hitting boys and giving them a taste of the hipcheck. Where did that Nick Ross go? That is what I need from you. Sean Squared, I noticed you both on the first day of camp but after that you just kind of blended in with the other black jerseys. Show me something more next year.
I have not seen Vrbata or Pyatt at practice the last couple of days. I hope both are ok. I also heard Fiddler may have been injured last night against the Sharks. I haven’t heard anything official on any of them, so hopefully all is good.
Ok, that is all I got for now. I really need to go work on my homework now.
