17 shots on goal. Short handed 6 times. Not the recipe for success or what I’m sure the Blue Jackets coaching staff and players had in mind for the evening but at the end of 60 minutes, the only stat that matters was in the Jackets’ favor: 4 goals for, 2 goals against. The Jackets hot streak continues.
3rd Star: Boone Jenner
I was curious to see how long it would take for Jenner to get back to his old form. After an unremarkable (not bad, just unremarkable) first game back, Jenner reminded us tonight what he brings every shift. I had actually forgotten how much intensity and physicality he played with until tonight’s game. Great to see him get involved in the scoring and the bench clearly responded. Star earned.
2nd Star: Patrik Berglund
Berglund was impressive tonight and while he didn’t generate a ton of shots, his one shot resulted in a goal and he played a huge role in Tarasenko’s goal. He literally factored into all of Saint Louis’ scoring.
1st Star: Jack Johnson
Jack is not the player I expected to see here. Jack had a great game but I probably would bump him from the top three for the net minder who allowed the CBJ to comfortably sit on their lead without being bothered to generate shots in the 3rd period. Bob stood tall against all 13 attempts on him in the 3rd and finished the night with a .935 save pct after facing a lot of tough time on the PK.
You can’t deny that the CBJ are finding ways to win games against some of their toughest opponents of the season right now. Tuesday we’ll see how they fare against the New Jersey Devils at Nationwide Arena.
