Miracles happen for a reason and for the Holy Cross Crusaders, it’s no short of an miracle.
Holy Cross, as the 16th seed, defeated Southern University, the favorite to win from most by a score of 59-54 Wednesday night. This is the first win in the NCAA tournament for the private school out of Worcester, Mass since the days of Bob Cousy and Tommy Heinsohn (which is quite a long time ago). Holy Cross has an enrollment of roughly 2,900 kids and has a basketball program that has restructured into a winning program. Even though with 19 losses, it’s still unbelievable to think that they made it this far.
In the win against Southern, G Robert Champion scored a team high 19 points off the bench which powered the Crusaders to a unlikely victory. Following the footsteps off Champion was G Anthony Thompson, who scored 12 points.
Holy Cross will now face #1 Oregon on Friday March 18th
