Will We See Thomas in New Orleans?

Line4

The 2017 All-Star weekend in New Orleans is a little over a month away. There’s only eleven more days until voting ends. Nothing beats watching the best of the best compete and put on an unbelievably entertaining performance.

Isaiah Thomas is not blessed with the prototypical NBA body. At 5-foot-9-inches Thomas is one of the shortest players in NBA history but he certainly doesn’t play like it. Thomas’ play last season earned him a bid to the All-Star game as a reserve. He also was a key role in the Celtics making the playoffs. Now I know they didn’t play well in the playoffs but Bradley was out with a hamstring injury and Al Horford was on the opposing team.

Anyway, Thomas is the shortest player in NBA history to score 50+ points in a game. That is a record he set the other night when he scored 52 points against the Miami Heat, with 29 of those points coming in the fourth quarter (a Celtic record for points scored in a single quarter). In the entire Boston Celtics franchise history only Larry Bird (60 & 53) and Kevin McHale (56) have scored more than Thomas’ 52 in a single game. Not too many people know this but Isaiah is also tied with Calvin Murphy as the shortest player to play in an All-Star game. He’s also the shortest player in NBA history to record a triple-double.

I don’t care how tall he is, the dude can flat out play. At 5-foot-9-inches he lets his heart do all the playing. I watch a lot of basketball and It’s hard to say anybody competes harder than Thomas. Most players would feel extremely intimidated in a predominately height and size driven league. Thomas goes out and plays every game with a chip on his shoulder. He plays with a Tom Brady like mentality. Thomas was the very last pick of the 2011 NBA draft coming out of the University of Washington. Every team passed up on him and he’s making them pay with his fiery play.

He, without a doubt, deserves to be a starter at the All-Star game. The 26-year-old is averaging 27.8 points per game along with 6.4 assists per game. Over the last 10 games Thomas is averaging 31.5 points per game and is shooting 51.3% from the field. He is a scoring machine as of late, seemingly scoring or assisting on every Celtics possession. I forgot to mention how clutch he is, scoring late in games with a mamba mentality. Not to mention Isaiah now has 19 games in a row of scoring at least 20 points. IMPRESSIVE

This guy comes to play every game and steps up big time when his team needs him most. His Boston Celtics are 21-14 on the season and sit at 3rd place in the Eastern Conference. Thomas is deserving of being an All-Star and there’s only eleven more days to vote. So go out and vote! I want to see him in New Orleans next month with that Eastern Conference All-Star uniform on.
