The Celtics look to improve their already impressive season against the Pistons in Detroit. While most of the attention this week is focused on a different Boston team, the C’s will try not to be outdone.

Boston is 8-4 to start the new year, but should have a better record. They lost two games to Portland and New York who have a combined  42-58 record. These are two teams that the Celtics should have easily taken care of. Even though they dropped two winnable games, Boston still gained momentum in the East. They now sit in second place in the Eastern conference, having taken the spot from the Toronto Raptors.

Things are looking bright for the future of the Celtics as well. They have played more games on the road than at home, and still have a solid record. With more home stands in their future, they should be able to pad their stats in the win column. Not to mention they still have some players missing with injuries.

With Bradley and Horford missing games this week, coach Brad Stevens had to look towards his bench in order to keep the green machine rolling. Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and Terry Rozier have all stepped up in the absence of their starters. Brown in particular has been a shining light. His minutes and points per game have increased in the past month. Getting more playing time means more confidence, which in today’s NBA can be the most important aspect.

Isaiah Thomas is continuing to impress on the offensive side of the ball. Even after sitting out the entire fourth quarter against the Magic, he still led the C’s in points. He’s earned the nickname “King in the Fourth” for leading the league in points in the fourth quarter with just over 10.

If Boston can keep rolling, the have a solid chance to make a run in the playoffs. The Celtics take on the Pistons tonight in Detroit at 8:00 PM.
