After leading the Celtics with 33 points and another win, Isaiah Thomas drew criticism from the opposing coach.
In the post game news conference, Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg had some choice words for the C’s star point guard.
“Let me say this, Isaiah Thomas is a hell of a player, an unbelievable competitor — he’s a warrior, everything he’s going through right now. He had a hell of a game tonight. But when you’re allowed to discontinue your dribble on every possession, he is impossible to guard. He’s impossible to guard when you’re able to put your hand underneath the ball and take two or three steps and put it back down. It’s impossible to guard him in those situations.”
Hoiberg seems to think Isaiah is doing something that is uncommon in the NBA. Every person who has watched the NBA in the past 40 years can see how much ISN’T called. Traveling is the biggest offender. Go on YouTube and you can see hundreds of videos of “The WORST travels ever”. If the refs were that vigilant, game 4 would still be going on.
Other Bulls players seemed wary of supporting their coach’s statements. Butler and Wade both shyed away, with Wade saying bluntly, “I’m not getting into the officiating”.
When Isaiah was asked about Hoiberg’s comments, he responded with, “That’s not the reason why I’m an impossible cover”. Clearly confidence is something that Isaiah isn’t lacking. With game 5 back in Boston, we will have to wait and see if Hoiberg’s comments have made an impact on officials. Until then, we’ll have to scour the replays to search for those travels.
