A memo to the Oklahoma City Thunder:
Please start acting your age. You are not supposed to be this good this soon. Your top four players are 23-years-old or younger. Even your coach, Scott Brooks, is inexperienced and young. And don’t forget, you play in the Western Conference in one of the League’s smallest markets. You have NO BUSINESS winning a playoff game versus the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers. You really have no business even making the playoffs this season. You were supposed to be improved this year – maybe challenge for a playoff spot early in the year before falling off the pace. Then, maybe, you’d be ready to make the playoffs in 2011.
And, furthermore, Kevin Durant – you are an offensive jugernaut, that we know. You ARE NOT a defensive force. You have no business shutting down one of the most dangerous offensive players off all-time, Kobe Bryant, in the late stages of Game 3. You, and your team, are supposed to take your lumps in your first playoff appearance. Let Kobe scorch you and teach you a lesson. Let Phil Jackson outcoach you. Let the Lakers mystique overwhelm you. Then come back stronger next year. You have no business taking it to the Lakers in Game 3. You have no business having boisterous playoff crowds capable of intimidating your opponents. You have no business turning this into a actual “series”.
So, please, young Oklahoma City Thunder – please start acting your age. Please respect your elders.
