2012 NBA Draft Profile: Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis
Kentucky – Freshman (Born 1993)
Center
6’10” 220lbs

The Good:

7’4″ wingspan
– extremely athletic and fluid for a player his size
– defensive menace who blocks/alters shots all the way out to the three-point line
– can get up and down the floor in a hurry
– smart, unselfish player
– stays out of foul trouble
– coachable
– will be deadly in a fastbreak, pick and roll, alley oop centric NBA offense
– great attitude – won’t cause problems in the locker room or off the court

The Bad:

– still very skinny – needs to get stronger
– while physical play didn’t slow him down in college, NBA players might be able to bully him on the floor
– might lack killer instinct/aggression needed to be a franchise player
– still very raw offensively
– could be too unselfish for his own good

NBA Comparison:

A less psycho Kevin Garnett/a rich man’s Marcus Camby.  Potential franchise player – perennial All-NBA potential.

The Skinny:

The best NBA prospect to come along in at least a couple of years, Anthony Davis should become a game changer for whichever team is lucky enough to have the ping pong balls bounce their way.  Worse case scenario (assuming he stays healthy) he becomes a defensive menace; best case scenario he is the best big man in the NBA for a decade and ends up in the Hall of Fame.
