New York City is widely considered the Capital of the World, welcoming roughly 50 million tourists each year and offering copious amounts of destination points through its five boroughs. Such attractions include the NBA’s New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets, who despite turbulent starts to the 2015-16 season have continued to generate interest in attending games at both Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center.
Neither team may be making a playoff push come April, but that won’t deter fans from attending several marquee games in the Big Apple until then. With a combined 19 home games remaining between both teams through the end of the regular season, many of the league’s biggest names are due to visit Midtown Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn, including LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls and Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Knicks control the more expensive ticket prices on the secondary market through the end of the year. Secondary market ticket data shows the average price for Knicks tickets across their 11 remaining home games at Madison Square Garden this season is $286.04. They’ll host their most expensive game against the Cavaliers on March 26, where tickets average $616.69 and the get-in price starts from $162.
Fans traveling to New York City to attend an upcoming game may pay big for tickets, but those exorbitant fees won’t carry over when searching for traveling arrangements. Many hotels can be found for cheaper than the ticket price to a Knicks or Nets game, and bigger deals can be found the further in advance.
If looking to catch an upcoming Nets game at Barclays Center, Nets tickets for remaining games at Barclays Center own a secondary market average of $154.81. Like the Knicks, the Nets will host the Cavaliers in their most expensive game on March 24, where tickets average $331.03 and the cheapest ticket is $55.
Conversely, fans on the hunt for the cheapest tickets in both arenas will find them when the Knicks host the Orlando Magic on February 26 and the Nets take on the Milwaukee Bucks on March 13. Knicks vs Magic tickets on the secondary market start from $60 while Nets vs. Bucks tickets have a get-in price of just $10.
The wins may be coming at a slow pace, but don’t expect the mediocre play of either team to put a damper on ticket prices when some of the league’s best players come to town throughout the remainder of this season.
