In game 10 of the young season, The Pittsbugh Pirates dropped their third game in a row and their second series in a row, this time to the Detroit Tigers by the final score of 7-4. Here are our takeaways & throwaways from today’s game.

- Gregory Polanco showed great patience at the plate and continued to be a tough out for opposing pitchers. Polanco saw a total of 22 pitches in his four at bats and drew one walk. Polanco now leads the majors with 11 walks.
- After being stagnate with runners in scoring position through the first six innings, the Pirates came alive in the seventh and were able to capitalize on some mistakes by the Tigers to score three runs. The Pirates were second in the league in come from behind victories last season with 43 wins. They will have to continue this battling mentality in order to be successful this season.
Throwaways
- After Arquimedes Caminero gave up the lead for the Pirates last night, Tony Watson failed to get the jod done today for the Pirates, giving up three runs in the eighth inning. Recent call up Rob Scahill also gave up a run while in relief of Cole. The Pirates’ bullpen has recorded a 4.01 ERA so far this season.
- Andrew McCutchen‘s struggles in this series continued on Thursday with him going 0 for 2 with a strikeout. Combined in the series, McCutchen went 3 for 16 with six strikeouts. His average has bottomed out at .243 for the season.

Next up: The Milwaukee Brewers invade PNC Park for a weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. So far, the Brewers have recorded a 4-4 record with series against the Giants, Cardinals and Astros. This will be the last three games of the short home stand before the Pirates go on a 10-day National League West road trip.
