Pittsburgh Pirates Wake Up Call – Is This The Nadir?

In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in Trouble

After being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals, it is difficult not to imagine that the 2016 Pittsburgh Pirates have reached their nadir. Losers of 12 of their last 15 games, the club finds itself at 32-31. The pad enjoyed by the Chicago Cubs for the NL Central title has swelled to 12 games. With the lingering concerns over Gerrit Cole, the outlook can possibly get worse before it gets better.

Today the team enjoys its first day off in over a month, and manager Clint Hurdle will see a true test of his “shower well” mantra as his team begins another tough stretch of matchups. Much is often said about the degree of effect an MLB manager actually has on his team. During his tenure, Hurdle has shown the ability to keep the team pointing forward. He will need to channel that mindset and infuse it into his charges if they are to remain in the playoff hunt.

With their recent performance and uncertainties at key positions, the entire organization’s resolve will face a stiff test.
