Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-Up: Some Light in a Dark Week

The Pittsburgh Pirates Celebrate the Pens Win and Get Serious About Families and Violence

Well, the Pirates have been on a bit of a free-fall of late, dropping their last three games and dipping below .500 for the first time in June. It’s frustrating for fans – but even more-so for players. Andrew McCutchen, who has seen a little bit of rain in his hitting drought of late, summed it up best:

Keep up those #PositiveThoughts and that #PositiveEnergy. And even if they’re not winning, the guys did celebrate a BIG WIN in Pittsburgh recently – the Penguins winning the Stanley Cup!

And while we’re on the topic of the Stanley Cup and the Penguins, the now famous crew from Hockey Night Punjabi were invited to Pittsburgh to celebrate with the Penguins on parade day. The Canadians took a few extra days to explore the city, including a stop by PNC Park.

If you’re not familiar with their story and that famous BONINO BONINO BONINO BONINO BONINO call, check it out:

Enroute to the Sporting Clays event, Jared Hughes, with that photographer’s eye, snapped a landscape shot of a typical Western Pennsylvania summer…

Jordy Mercer also posted some sweet photos of the great outdoors – of the wheat harvest on Mercer Ranch in Oklahoma.

He’s back with the team now and starting on rehab for that broken hamate bone already, but if there was a good time, at least from a television programming perspective, to be injured, Francisco Cervelli picked it. While recuperating from surgery earlier this week, the die-hard futbol fan got a chance to watch team Italy take a win .

Mark Melancon stopped by 7th Inning Stretch clothing while in New York for the Mets series. The closer mugged for some photos and took a look at some of the kids’ offerings.

Speaking of kids, Melancon’s bullpen mate Neftali Feliz recently celebrated a milestone with his beautiful daughter…

And when we’re talking about kids, we start thinking of families, those that are rock solid, and sometimes, those that are not. The Pirates participated again this year in the PA Says No More campaign to end domestic violence. Volunteers for the cause were at the Pirates game on June 4  at the second annual Domestic Violence Awareness night encouraging fans to sign the Father’s Day Pledge to end gender violence.

Players got involved by participating in events and filming this PSA:

When the Pirates traveled to New York for their disappointing series against the Mets, it wasn’t all work:

And on a somber note, the Pirates – the team and its players – took time this week to honor the victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando.

The Pirates (and Mets) wore their emotions on their chests during their June 14 game – donning silver ribbons on their jerseys to honor the victims.

In the Media

Pirates beat reporter for MLB Adam Berry wrote a great piece about John Jaso and his dad just in time for Father’s Day that is sure to warm your heart.

Josh Harrison spent his time in New York in the MLB Network studios doing lots of interviews.

That’s what’s happening in the Pirates’ social media world this week – the Bucs take on the Cubs tonight at 8:15 p.m. – Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there and #LetsGoBucs
