In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates
Stanton Smash
The All-Star Break has officially arrived as last night Giancarlo Stanton did what everyone expected he would do and won the Home Run Derby. Stanton was impressive as he hit 61 total home runs. The 61 home runs he hit were more than the Atlanta Braves hit in the first half of the season.
I can’t remember the last time the clear favorite won the Home Run Derby, but Stanton was incredible last night. He showed why he is the strongest hitter in the entire league.
The Home Run Derby got me thinking about which Pirate will be the next to participate in the event. I raised the question to our fantastic Twitter followers:
Who will be the next Pirate to participate in the Home Run Derby?

The All-Star Game
Tonight the National League will battle the American League in the 87th MLB All-Star Game. Johnny Cueto (13-1, 2.47ERA) will start opposite Chris Sale (14-3, 3.38ERA) in a pretty dynamic pitching matchup. The All-Star Game technically counts as it decides home field in the World Series, but this is very much an exhibition game and should provide a lot of fun.
Starling Marte and Mark Melancon will represent the Pirates and both are more than worthy of the honor. I am predicting a stellar defensive play from Starling Marte if he is given the opportunity. He can finally show the world what all Pirates’ fans have known for years, that he is one of the best outfielders in the league.
