In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the baseball day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
Another day, another frustrating Pittsburgh Pirates loss.
If you’re scoring at home, that is now two days in a row that we’ve started your Wake Up Call with that line.
Yesterday the wheels fell off of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Twice. They first detached themselves from the Pirates Playoff Train – already rambling with no particular direction towards a realistic chance – when the Cardinals got out to a 5-0 lead in the span of 8 minutes. They fell off again when Tony Watson came within one strike of completing an incredible, playoff life-giving comeback.
With the loss, the club’s record against the Cardinals in August and September over the last four years stands at 9-18.
Alas, the baseball gods had other ideas.

We will have plenty more on the Pirates’ swoon – and Watson’s – in the coming days. For now, it is hard to think of last night as anything but the nadir for the 2016 Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pittsburgh Pirates Against Tonight’s Starter
Though it may not matter in the grand scheme of things, the Pirates can salvage a game in the Cardinals series tonight. Jameson Taillon goes for the club, while Mike Leake toes the rubber for the Cardinals. Here’s a look at how Leake historically fares against current Pirates hitters.
