The Cincinnati Reds snapped the Pittsburgh Pirates’ four game winning streak in a 7 – 4 win today at Great American Ballpark.
The Pittsburgh Pirates gave the Reds what-for in the past three games, piling on run after run in what was much-needed spirit-boosting trip to Cincy. But the team came back down to the ground today, leaving the offense amongst the clouds.
Takeaways
- Sean Rodriguez‘s Offense – He did it again, another homer – bringing his total for the season to 17 and total for the road trip to 5. As solid a bench player as he’s been this year, the Pirates would be wise to sign him to an extension before he hits the market.
- Tyler Glasnow out of the bullpen pitched three scoreless innings after starting pitcher Ivan Nova‘s early exit in the 4th.
Throwaways
- Not Nova’s finest outing – The lights out pitching the Pirates have quickly become accustomed to from the trade deadline acquisition showed a little tarnish today. Nova gave up two on a Tucker Barnhart double in the second inning and seemed to illicit a steady stream of screamers right over his left shoulder. Hurdle pulled him after just 4 innings after giving up a total of 5 runs – his shortest outing as a Bucco to date.
- Rookie Errors – Josh Bell dropped a ball in the second which allowed Ivan de Jesus to get aboard. Then in the third, Adam Frazier bobbled a liner by de Jesus, which allowed Scott Schebler to advance to third and eventually score on a sac fly by Tucker Barnhart.
W – Dan Straily (13-8)
L – Ivan Nova (12-7
Line of the Day
Pedro Florimon was steady for the Bucs today, bringing in two of the Pirates’ runs. In four at-bats, he had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
