The Pittsburgh Pirates played their final games for 2016 at PNC Park this week and said farewell to one of the game’s shining stars.
Well, it’s finally here. The one Social media Round-up I dislike doing – the final one for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ regular season. After a grind of 160 games now, this Pirates season looks like it will go out, like the poem says, with a whimper and not a bang. But you wouldn’t know that on social media this week.
It will be our last chance to catalog players’ antics on the field and as they travel – so just like they did with Robby Incmikoski recently, let’s make this one count…
Last chance to photobomb Robby, make it count. https://t.co/IBuWjS6Ud2

Of course, last week got started off on a terribly tragic note with the devastating loss of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez. And like all of MLB, the Pirates and the players took to social media to show their sadness and pay their respects.

I didn't know him personally, but Jose Fernandez perfectly displayed the beautiful mix of intense competition and FUN this game is. #RIP

Several of the players reposted this image to their Instagrams. Their comments are below:
I'll never forget facing you in Low-A in 2012. You were the best pitcher I'd ever faced and 4 years later I still feel the same #RIPJose pic.twitter.com/ilIW5FRHid

Neftali Feliz – (Translation) Rest in peace that God has you in his glory. What sad news
Wade LeBlanc – The second you threw your first major league pitch, you were one of the best in the world. And while you grew up, you never lost the kid in you. I’m beyond honored to be able to say that I played with you and beyond saddened that I won’t get the chance to again. You don’t come across lights this bright very often. Rest easy Josey, you will be missed.
Today is a sad day in baseball. Jose Fernandez brought an intensity to this game that could naturally ignite an entire stadium #RIPJose

Jose Fernandez was so uber talented, that when his highlights came on it stopped you in your tracks to watch his show.

Rare to see a guy mean so much to an organization and community. Such a tough loss. Heavy heart today

Tough day for our baseball family with the loss of Jose Fernandez! Praying for his family and friends! #RIPJose

But on a day of such sadness, there was hope. Josh Harrison and his wife Brittney held the first BaseBall – a black-tie affair in support of their Harrisons for Hope Foundation, which provides clothing to children from Kindergarten through high school and raised over $100,000 according to Root Sports Pitt.

Matty Joyce and his glowing with pregnancy wife, also Brittany, lent their support to the cause.

Jameson Taillon is a known coffee afficianado, so National Coffee day was practically like a second birthday to him…
Hope everyone is out there getting psycho amounts of caffeinated on National Coffee Day, anyone that knows me.. Knows that I am ☕️☕️☕️

Last week the guys were trolling on Bones during his Root Sports Pitt Twitter Tuesday – this week it was time to go after Trevor Williams (and the Harambe thing, which just will not die):
Trev- you have 5 spots at a dinner table. I assume Harambe has one spot reserved, who do the other 4 belong to? #BucsTuesday @MeLlamoTrevor
— Jameson Taillon (@JTaillon50) September 27, 2016
Mr. Williams-As a father, how will you handle telling Isaac about Harambe? At what age will the sit down occur? #BucsTuesday @ROOTSPORTSPIT
— Jameson Taillon (@JTaillon50) September 27, 2016
And even though for the most part MLB ignored that John Jaso was close to the cycle – once he got it, they made good. How many players have a bat headed for Cooperstown right now?

The rookies continue to enjoy their first tastes of big league life and are checking out the sights on roadtrips. Pitchers Trevor Williams and Chad Kuhl took the claustrophobic nightmare pod-ride up to the top of the St. Louis arch and posted pictures to make it official.

See what I mean about the Harambe thing?
Francisco Cervelli wins Boyfriend of the Week honors for helping promote his girlfriend, Migbelis Castellanos’ new beauty product:

Basically, it’s a mask that contains stems cells that help protect, rejuvenate and regenerate the skin that also brightens (removing dark spots). She models it in the post below. And hey, if wearing that helps you land a boyfriend like Cervy, #SIGNMEUP.

Castellanos, along with his sister, Maricarmen, and another partner, recently launched an online women’s health and lifestyle magazine, Asuntisdemujeres.com, and he is quite proud of “his women” for the big accomplishment.

And while it would be easy to look at this season as a failure given the success that the Pittsburgh Pirates have had in the past three years, remember this:

(Translation: The most important thing is that they played hard throughout the season; my respect to all the pirates, especially @Starlingmart and @El_Coffee)
