The Pittsburgh Pirates slide into the off-season in style, spending time relaxing while also keeping baseball on their minds.
In last week’s Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-up, I hinted that the Pirates had some surprises for fans during the off-season and I wasn’t steering you astray. Last week the team debuted a new contest on Facebook for Facebook Fan of the Week. To enter, according to the Pirates, “Just send a picture with a brief description as to why you should be our Fan of the Week to [email protected]. We’ll pick one winner each week!” Good luck – and may the odds be ever in your favor.
Congrats to Steve Falzone, our Facebook Fan of the Week!

The Pirates also launched a “Buccolantern” pumpkin carving contest this week. These are always a lot of fun – but be warned, make for a very cramped hand! The good news is, if you make a Buccolantern, you can figure out which trick or treaters to give lots of candy to, and which ones to turn away as well (#SorryNotSorry Reds fans who boo’ed my house last year).

And to make it easy on everyone, here’s the link to access those #Buccolantern templates. If you enter, make sure you share your Pirates creations with us, too!
I’m not sure how Gregory Polanco is spending his Halloween, but I hope he’s not wearing a wig to cover up his fresh hair cut –

It’s obvious a little R and R is treating him well…

Starling Marte may be celebrating his birthday and wedding anniversary with family and friend in the Dominican Republic right now, but a little of his heart is still in the Burgh.

He also sat for an interview for a talk show on Color Vision in Santo Domingo in the DR recently.

Matty Joyce is taking on a side gig – as a baseball league owner with some friends from high school. We’ll have much more on this endeavor later this week from Mr. Joyce himself.

It’s no secret that playing baseball at the major league level is a dream come true for anyone who steps out onto a diamond. But the sacrifices that players make to get there and stay there are real. And big. So today, this Tweet from Jordy Mercer is especially important:

While Jung Ho Kang is getting some much-needed time reconnecting with friends and family in Korea, his translator HK Kim, an “unofficial” official member of the Pirates, has been visiting New York, apparently working on an eye wear collection inspired by architecture – which seems to be a passion of Kim’s based on his Insta feed. Check out the wares at www.mudtofficial.com. (Definitely adding The Lexi to my Christmas list!)

Francisco Cervelli spent time vacationing in Mexico with his good buddy and off-season workout partner Melky Cabrera.

And he also took some time to pamper himself – compliments of his girlfriend’s new facial mask products!

Trevor Williams is working on keeping that baseball body in shape during the off season – but as well all know, #TheStruggleIsReal
I had my first salad in 7th grade. That's when I accepted that I will be fat forever because that salad was the worst thing I ever tasted.

Meanwhile, fellow-pitcher Jameson Taillon was getting in a workout in the great outdoors…

Late-season addition Wade LeBlanc is keeping his arms in shape by getting in some kayaking (nice save in his comments there).

Jared Hughes seems to be cleaning out his closets (perhaps making room for baby Hughes?) and stumbled upon a mighty impressive hat collection:
I just found a bunch of the hats I've worn over the past few years. Some cool ones in the mix. What's your favorite? pic.twitter.com/wl3lrmLlr9

Here’s his off season gym:

Steven Brault is adding some detail to that space-age, techno-inspired right arm tattoo that he talked about on a Twitter Tuesday in 2016 (a question from yours truly) during the off season. We’re working on a PBD exclusive on that, too ; )

And if you’ve ever wondered if getting a tattoo hurts, here’s Brault’s take:
Getting tattooed hurts a lot less than watching the Chargers do their best to lose every game in the 4th quarter.

If you like free baseball stuff – and who doesn’t, keep an eye on the Pittsburgh Pirates social media accounts for a lot fun swag and autographed items that they’re giving away for likes, retweets, trivia questions, etc.
That’s about all this week for the Pirates’ Social Media Round-Up. #LetsGoBucs
