In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
So as I write this, again before the World Series has begun (keep that in mind), I have some random thoughts:
- First, I heard Tom Verducci say on the Fox Sports pregame show that this Game 7 is the biggest game in baseball history. And off the top of my head, I have to say that it’s certainly up there. It might certainly be, at least in my 24 years of life. Red Sox-Yankees Game 7 in 2004 is up there, but I’d have to guess that this game pits the two teams with the combined most years of championship drought in sports history, and that speaks to something.
- Although the Cubs have the longer championship drought, I wonder if the Indians felt as much, if not more pressure than Chicago to win last night. Chicago seemingly has their team set up to be a championship contender for the next decade, while Cleveland may just be on a magical run as it faces financial restrictions every year.
- Charlie Sheen did not throw out the first pitch last night. He was definitely upset about it, but he still found a way to get to the game:
who ever is
idiotically guilty of
preventing me from
throwing out the 1st pitch,
in any of these home gms,
well,
jus sayin.

- I understand the reasoning behind not having him throw out the first pitch, but I still would have liked to have seen it at least once in Cleveland.
- On a semi-related note, the Marlins are not going to un-retire Jose Fernandez‘s jersey, according to TMZ, despite evidence over the weekend that he had alcohol and cocaine in his system during his fatal boating accident. I wonder what is worse for PR: keeping Fernandez’s jersey retired, or having Charlie Sheen throw out the first pitch. The two are obviously different situations, but still something both teams thought about.
