Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-up: World Series Baseball, Work-outs and Magic

The Pittsburgh Pirates are using their off-time wisely, visiting with family, vacationing, championing pet causes and starting those off-season workouts.

A lot of people forget that deep down inside most every MLB player lives a gigantic baseball fan. So it’s no surprise that more than a few Pirates players were tuning in to the World Series this week.

Even though we know how it ended up, Starling Marte couldn’t help but celebrate that tie in the 8th!

And they even added some insight into the game from their own experiences…

Well, except maybe Gregory Polanco, Cutch…

And even though it’s the Cubs – baseball is still a brotherhood. So congrats were well-deserved for friends in different unis…

Beyond getting charged up about baseball, Pittsburgh Pirates players are still enjoying their time at home.

Neftali Feliz continued his selfie series, although he’s moved from the bedroom and onto a patio setting in the Dominican Republic.

Juan Nicasio is also spending time in the Domincan – catching up with his adorable mini-me:

Tyler Glasnow is taking in an active vacation in Hawaii, getting in a nice hike at Oheo Gulch Kipahulu in Haleakala National Park on the island of Maui.

And fellow pitcher Nick Kingham is getting in some leg work in a different, but still soul-inspiring way.

Kingham also spent some time promoting a worthy cause this week, rocking an purple t-shirt supporting the Alzheimer’s Association at his work-out facility in Houston.

Adam Frazier is also working to raise awareness for a cause very close to all athletes – concussions in sports.

The goals of the Headway Foundation, according to their website, is to raise awareness about sports concussions, provide aid via information for those suffering from these types of injuries and to advocate for stronger concussion policies and enhanced protocols.

We learned last month from former Pirates sports dietitian Leslie Bonci that the off-season is an important time for player fitness and wellness – particularly when it comes to nutrition. Felipe Rivero is working with Icon Meals – a fully-customizable meal prep service catering (pun intended) to athletes – to crush his off-season goals.

Francisco Cervelli is also paying close attention to his nutrition this off-season – carb loading at Della Nonna Trattoría in Columbia. By the looks of that apron, he’s either a very messy eater or also helping the chefs out in the kitchen!

Cervy also gave a backwards shout out to recent Hidden Hero Josh Birt, posting this image on his Instagram:

These images, taken by Birt’s photographer Adrian Brown during their 2016 promo shoot, were very popular with players, Birt revealed. Several of the guys asked for copies for personal use.

Trevor Williams seems to have found the perfect intersection of his two passions – baseball and gaming. And a way to reward himself for a hard workout…

Josh Harrison is planning his very popular Martin Luther King Day camp held annually near his hometown of Cincinnati.

Starling Marte is loving his time off, after an accolade-worthy season. And he is spending his time with those people who have supported him along the way:

And… Gregory Polanco is still looking fly…

A NOTE FROM THE WRITER: Given that we’re going into Hot Stove Season where players are dealt around like cards in poker tourney, I thought it would be a good time to explain my approach to shifting rosters where my Social Media Round-Up is concerned. I will continue to use the Pirates official roster as my guide for this curation – as the team picks up new players, I’ll add them to my list. As players depart, I’ll include any social media posts relevant to their time with the team (farewells, thank-yous, screw yous, etc.) before moving ahead.

That’s about all this week for the Pirates’ Social Media Round-Up. Remember to watch the Pirates social media accounts on Fridays for their Fan of the Week feature and fun giveaways! #LetsGoBucs
