The Pittsburgh Pirates swung a deal this morning, acquiring infielder Phil Gosselin from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for pitching prospect Frank Duncan.
The Pittsburgh Pirates, who have had a relatively quiet offseason, announced the acquisition on twitter.

Throughout his career, Phil Gosselin, who made his major league debut in 2013, has appeared in 216 career games for the Atlanta Braves and Diamondbacks. The 28 year old was a fifth round draft pick by the Braves in 2010 and sports a .283 career batting average with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 460 career at-bats.
Gosselin played in a career high 122 games for the Diamondbacks last season, hitting .277 with two home runs and 13 RBIs. Gosselin did have some issues with strikeouts, punching out 46 times and walking on only 15 occasions.
Gosselin may serve as a relatively solid bench option for the Pirates, who lost Sean Rodriguez and Matt Joyce this offseason. Gosselin also has the versatility to play multiple positions on the diamond. Throughout his major league career, Gosselin has made 80 career appearances at second base and 26 at third base. He has also made appearances at first base, shortstop, left field and right field.
The Diamondbacks recently signed infielder Daniel Descalso, which may have sparked this deal.
On their end of the deal, Arizona acquires a 25 year old hurler in Frank Duncan who has put up impressive numbers in the minor leagues.
In 68 career appearances, Duncan has sported a 3.41 ERA along with a 24-21 record. He went 12-8 with a 2.34 ERA in 27 appearances between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis last season.

To make room for Gosselin on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated right handed pitcher Nefi Ogando for assignment.
