Pittsburgh Pirates Wake-Up Call: Quintana Trade Saga Continues

In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.

Well, here we go again with the trade drama involving Chicago White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana. And believe it or not, the Pirates would be linked to him once again.

In a story published by Yahoo Sports Columnist Jeff Passan, buzz from MLB scouts have surrounded Quintana and sources familiar with the trade talks told Yahoo that the White Sox are interested in dealing the lefty for the right price.

We’ve discussed Quintana numerous times on our site and I’m going to give my take once again.

The Pirates enter the 2017 season with three starting spots filled by Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon and Ivan Nova. The last two are open, with guys like Chad Kuhl, Drew Hutchison, Steven Brault and Tyler Glasnow basically all vying for the spots.

While all four of these starters are capable of being quality members of the starting rotation, there is no doubting what Quintana could bring to the Bucs. He’s a guy who pitches an abundance of quality innings and would be a more than capable addition to the Pittsburgh Pirates’ rotation.

Quite simply, he’d make the Pirates an even bigger threat in the National League.

There is no doubting what Chicago would want in return as they have made it clear that they want a hefty return in exchange for the 28-year old southpaw.

The Pirates have what it takes to get him, it’s just a matter of will they actually pull the trigger.

I don’t expect the Quintana trade saga to end anytime soon. But until it does, Pirates fans can hold on to hope that Quintana ends up in a bucco uniform.
